March 11th Sale Summary
Hudson Valley Auctioneers will present a fine Spring two session unreserved estate auction on Monday March 11th at 5:00 PM. The sale includes Somers, Scarsdale, Boonton NJ and three Manhattan partial estate contents. Additional consignments from several long time associates and gallery offerings round out the sale of approximately 525 fresh to the market lots. Session One offers online bidding with Liveauctioneers.com as well as in house, absentee and phone bidding.
An apartment in the Ritz Hotel, NYC contributed several lots to the first session. A fine signed Linke Louis XVI occasional table, a George III inlaid satinwood dressing chest, a pair of Regency style painted and parcel gilt marble topped chests and a card table set of gilded chairs and parquet table are complemented by an eclectic collectionof decorative accessories; a pair of early 19th century ormolu tole and marble potpourri, Sevres, Irish crystal, figural bronzes lamped, gilt mirrors, Meissen, and lots of silver , jewelry, gold coins and lighting. Mid Century highlights from the three NY estates include a rare pair bronze floor lamps by Stewart Ross for Hanson, several Saarinen Tulip tables, one marble topped, tessellated table and console, an unusual dressing table by Rougier,a George Nelson Omni wall unit and lots of Danish teak are among the many offerings.
Artworks and bronzes are numerous and scattered throughout both sessions with examples by William MacDonough, Moses Soyer, William Merrit Post, Antonio Cirino, Milton Lunin, John Haelen, Chiam Gross, Hal Robinson,and Charles Fazzino among others. A large commissioned oil by Robert Loughlin entitled "Bad Cop" shipped east from longtime partner Gary Carlson should be well received.For those who may remember peace activist Thomas Lewis and his association with the Baltimore Four and the Catonsville Nines peace activities the auction will offer an extremely rare original artwork created during the years of his struggle and before his subsequent incarceration. The work entitled "The Massacre of the Innocents" signed and dated January 1967 features a red wash over drawings signifying blood and in the bible inscription adding 'Vietnam' to 'Bethlehem'.
Eleven signed "Tiffany Studios" lamps will be offered with the guarantee that they are not authentic. Evidence of a decades old scam and by an unknown craftsman these pieces are practically perfect copies of the original Tiffany masterpieces. Session Two follows with 200 plus lots of more of the same interesting quality lots which will not offer online bidding and features great accessories, lighting, several room size and scatter Oriental carpets, silver and estate jewelry, Mid Century and much more estate merchandise.
