March 9, Auction Summary

Hudson Valley Auctioneers, located at 432 Main Street, Beacon, New York will present an unreserved antique and estate auction with absentee, phone and online bidding through Liveauctioneers.com on Monday March 9th at 5:00 PM EST.  In house previews are Sunday March 8th from 1pm-5pm and Monday from 2:00pm-4:30 pm or by appointment beginning 2/28. Items were collected from several estate lots from the Hudson Valley and beyond.

Antique furniture is becoming less of a staple for us as prices continue to reflect changing buying habits. While there are a few fine Empire pieces including a cornucopia carved sofa the balance of the furniture offerings are from the prior mid century and of modern design, some Arts and Crafts including Oscar Bach, French marquetry pieces, some good decorative lots and assorted country. There is a collection of Japanese post Meiji period that features several heavily carved chairs and a large Chinese  marble topped center table. For those with a musical bent there are three pianos; two Steinway and an Erard all in 'art cases' with one of the Steinway's a Model D Style XR Aeolien player. A fine William Lewis and Son viola and  concert Lyon and Healey harp # 3589 will be sure to attract some attention.

Another large selection of various artwork from the same consignor represented in two prior auctions will once again show the taste and diversity of this fine eyed collector. Included will be works by the following artists and led by Whan-Ki Kim, William Bradford, Paul Chikamasa Horiuchi, Joseph Henry Sharp, McClelland Barclay, Wolf Kahn (attrib), William S, Coleman, John Hare, Barbara Stadtlander, William R. Flint, Otto Jones, Frank Stokes, Gerard Belciar and many more. Bronzes from the same collection and an additional Red Hook estate include works by sculptors Mary Ann Owen, Jo Davidson, P.J. Mene, Pautrot, Christopher Fratin, L. Bonheur, J. Chemin, Mark Hopkins, David Lemon, Ramon Parmenter, Ron Lee, Joseph Boulton, R.F Elwell, several Vienna bronzes and others.

Some fine art glass and some pottery include 14 signed Galle cameo vases, a Daum Nancy, 5 L.C. Tiffany pieces, Quezal and Steuben. 2 large Loetz pieces, Murano dragons and two large Consolidated nudes vases, Rookwood, Weller, Pewabic and some copper work. 

An impressive flock of 16 large Boehm figural birds and groupings, a large selection of B&G, Volkstedt, Dresden, Meissen, Lenox and other porcelain figures as well as several large French bisque figures will round out an ongoing disbursement of a tremendous lifelong obsession with fine figurines.  Other porcelain and pottery include several fine Mettlach steins and charges, a large Royal Worcester "Engadine" dinnerware service, some fine Chinese porcelain and export china,  Doulton Lambeth, Moorecroft and others.

At this writing this sale has little silver or estate jewelry, however some silver Judaica including Russian examples and 2 heavy cups by Henryk Winograd combine with a cast signed 'Chamber of Secrets" script with documentation, several fine Jay Strongwater pieces, a meerschaum pipe collection,  several estate carpets and a vintage "Minivac 601" will assure a fine and interesting sale.
