Auction Summary, August 11, 2025

Hudson Valley Auctioneers, located at 432 Main Street, Beacon, New York will present an unreserved one owner collection with absentee, phone and online bidding through Liveauctioneers.com on Monday August 11th at 5:00 PM EST.  Previews are by appointment only beginning 7/28. The sale features one man's lifelong interest in American postal history, stamped and unstamped historical letters, rare postmarks, hotel postmarks, Civil War; Union and Confederate covers, stamps and postmarks, some colonial currency, CDV and cabinet cards and other interesting material. 

A few examples of dated letters' authors include Peter Gansevoort 1818, Jared Sparks 1822, John Rogers 1878, James Turner 1836, Mathew Livingston Davis, Willian Hendricks 1820, Abraham Oakey Hall 1895, Thaddeus Stevens 1842, Charles Augustus Dewey 1846, James Guthrie 1855, Franz Lehar, Andrew Beaumont, Jacob Meyerbeer 1859 and many others. Two lots of particular interest are a group of three ca.1780 Erasmus Hall Library bookplates and a lot of two early bookplates from the New York Society Library. This auction is the first of several sales of like material from the same collection.
